Flood Situation Worsens in Assam, Brahmaputra River Flowing Above Danger Mark

New Delhi : After continuous rains in Assam for the past one week, the flood situation has deteriorated. The floods have engulfed 16 districts of the state. The condition is that the Brahmaputra river is now flowing above the danger mark and water has been filled in people’s homes. More than 2.53 lakh people have been affected by the floods in the state, while the death toll rose to 16 after one more person died.

Dhemaji is the most affected district in the state, and Tinsukia, Majuli and Dibrugarh have also been badly affected by the floods. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) daily flood report, the flood in Dibrugarh killed another person.

Officials said that the Brahmaputra river and its tributaries are flowing above the danger mark in many places and due to this Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Udalguri, Darang, Baksa, Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Nagaon, Golaghat, Jorhat, Majuli, Sivasagar, the districts of Dibrugarh and Tinsukia have been affected by the floods.

The rise in the water level of the Brahmaputra poses a threat to the entire state. It is feared that if the water continues to rise for two to three days, the situation may become very serious. The ASDMA said district departments have set up 142 relief camps and distribution centers in six districts, where more than 18,000 people have resided.
