Kozhikode Plane Crash : 30-Member SIT to Investigate the Entire Case, Condition of 14 Passengers Still Critical

New Delhi : The Kerala Police has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) at the nearby Karipur International Airport to investigate the Air India Express air crash case on August 7. 18 passengers, including pilot and co-pilot, were killed in the accident. An official release said that Malappuram’s Additional Superintendent of Police G. Sabu would preside over the 30-member team.

Police said that based on the statement of a CISF personnel on duty on the day of the accident, a case has been registered under various provisions of sections 337, 338 and 304A of the Aviation Law and Indian Penal Code. Under Section 337 of the IPC, cases involving loss of life or endangering the personal safety or life of a person due to any act of negligence are dealt with.

Section 338 is imposed in case of serious endangering of one’s life or damage to personal safety etc., whereas, section 304A is imposed in case of negligence and death. On Friday (7 August), 18 people were killed and several others were injured when the plane coming from Dubai crashed.

Malappuram District Magistrate K Gopalakrishnan said that the condition of 14 passengers admitted to various hospitals is critical. So far 49 passengers have been discharged from hospitals. The Air India Express said on Sunday (9 August) that the bodies of 16 passengers who lost their lives in the accident were handed over to their families.

14 passengers still in critical condition
DM of Malappuram said that out of 149 injured in the accident, the condition of 14 passengers is still critical. He told on Sunday (9 August) that now 49 passengers have been discharged from the hospital, while 109 passengers injured are undergoing treatment in various hospitals.
