Now IPS Ambika is known as Lady Singham of Mumbai. However, in 2008 all this was almost impossible for her.

She was married when she was 14 years old. At the age of 18, she became the mother of two children. Her husband was a police constable. One day she went with her husband to see the Republic Day parade. When she saw her husband saluting the superiors, she asked him why he had done so. Her husband then explained her that he was an IPS office and one has to give civil service exam to become an IPS. That’s when Ambika decided to write the exam.

But it was not easy. Because Ambika’s education was incomplete. She got completed her 10th class teaching from a private coaching class in and then graduated from distance learning. She did all this by taking care of her home and children and she finally became eligible to become an IPS.

Dindigul had no coaching center for IPS exams. So Ambika decided to stay in Chennai and prepare for the civil service exam. Her husband also helped her. When Ambika was living in Chennai, her husband was working and taking care of the children.

Failed three times…
Ambika failed the IPS exam not once but thrice. However, she did not lose. Her husband wanted her to come back now. However, Ambika decided to take one last chance and in 2008 she passed. After completing the training of IPS officer, she got her first posting in Maharashtra. Today, Ambika is the DCP of Zone-4, Mumbai.
