Six booked in Talegaon Dhamdhere for solemnising child marriage

PUNE: Seven persons were booked and a case was registered against them for allegedly solemnising marriage of a 17-year-old in Talegaon Dhamdhere in Shikrapur police station area of Pune district.

Superintendent of Police (Pune Rural) Dr Abhinav Deshmukh received information about the incident and he ordered Shikrapur police to investigate the matter.

According to the Shikrapur police, while inspecting the place, the police found about a 17-year-old been married off in Aroh Shrishti Bhimshet Dhanore Road in the limits of Talegaon Dhamdhere village. The police registered a case against six relatives of the bride and groom. Shikrapur police are further investigating the case.

Prohibition of Child Marriages Act came into force on November 1, 2007. The act prohibits the marriage of a girl under the age of 18 and a boy under the age of 21.
