10 police officials attached to Mumbra police station suspended for looting Rs 6 cr from toy trader

Thane : Policenama online  – Three officers and seven police personnel attached to the Mumbra police station were suspended for looting Rs 6 crore belonging to a toy trader from Mumbra area. The suspension order was issued by Thane Commissioner of Police Jagjit Singh. He has also ordered a departmental inquiry against the senior police inspector (PI), assistant commissioner of police (ACP) and other suspended police personnel. DCP Avinash Ambure will conduct the inquiry.

 

Prima facie, 10 police officers and employees have been found involved in the case, stated a report filed by DCP Ambure. Among the suspended are the then PI Gitaram Shewale, PSI Harshad Kale, Raviraj Madane, police naik Pankaj Gaikar, Jagdish Gavit, Dilip Kirpan, Praveen Kumbhar, Ankush Vaidya, Lalit Mahajan and Nilesh Salunkhe.

 

CP Singh said statements of ACP Venkat Andhale and Senior PI Ashok Kadlag will also be recorded.

 

Case details

The police conducted a fake raid at toy trader Faisal Memon’s house in Bombay Colony in Mumbra at 12 am on April 12. They seized 30 boxes containing cash amounting to Rs 30 crore. PI Shewale, PSI Kale and Madane seized the boxes in the presence of witnesses. They were brought to the police station around midnight. Then these police personnel threatened Memon and returned 24 boxes while keeping six with them.

 

The cash was counted in the cabin of Senior PI Ashok Kadlag. The case was suppressed in a hush-hush manner after ‘settlement’. However, a person identified as Ibrahim Sheikh wrote about the incident giving all the details to the State Home Department. News containing CCTV footage has also been published. This has rocked the Thane police force.
