New Delhi : The drug maker Cipla launched a real-time Covid testing kit last week, which will be available for sale in the market from today. The supply of Cipla’s RT-PCR test kit, launched as ViraGen in partnership with Ubio Biotechnology Systems, will start today.
The company’s managing director Umang Vohra said that Cipla has been working continuously to ensure access to treatment in the fight against Covid-19. This partnership will enable our reach to more people across the country in challenging times. ViraGen is Cipla’s third offering in the Coronavirus testing category. The kit is accredited by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and is based on multiplex PCR technology.
This will help in identification and detection of coronavirus with a 98.8 percent characteristic and 98.6 per cent sensitivity as compared to standard ICMR test. Cipla already has partnerships for antibody testing kits and antigen testing kits.
After launching the testing kit, the company said that this would give relief to the people presently facing problems in getting corona tested. This test kit has been developed for qualitative identification of the nucleic acid of coronavirus in upper and lower respiratory samples from people suspected of Covid-19. ViraGen used for qualitative detection of coronavirus will be produced through Ubio Biotechnology Systems. Cipla’s wide distribution network will be responsible for its marketing and distribution in the country.
