The accused who attacked has been identified as Suresh Baliram Dayalu. Jail constable Subhash Mansingh Darekar (54) has lodged a complaint in this regard. According to the police, the inmates were cleaning the area in front of room no. 1 and 12. Nana Gaikwad has sat on the chair in front room no. 1. Accused Suresh Dayalu came from behind. He hit Nana Gaikwad on his right cheek with a piece of iron sheet.
The police on duty immediately detained the accused. Nana Gaikwad has been admitted to the Jail Hospital for treatment. An FIR under section 324 of the IPC has been registered against accused Dayalu.
It was not known what led to the argument between the attacker Suresh Dayalu and Nana Gaikwad. Gaikwad has been in Yerawada Jail for the past several days. Cases of extortion and attempt to murder have been filed against him. Action has been taken against him under MOCCA. 14 cases have been registered against the accused within the limits of Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate.
