Mizoram CM dissolves 15 boards set up by previous government

Aizawl, Dec 14 (UNI)- Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Thursday dissolved 15 boards set up under its flagship Socio-Economic Development Programme (SEDP) by the preceding Mizo National Front (MNF) government.

Lalduhoma, however, announced in the assembly that teachers employed under the SEDP fund will continue till the end of the current fiscal though some of them are not qualified as teachers. The CM also made several appointments during the last 36 hours.

The ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) Vice President and former Assembly Speaker (1979-1984) Kenneth Chawngliana was appointed as Vice Chairman of the State Planning Board. He will enjoy the rank of a Cabinet minister.

The Mizoram government also appointed four legislators as Advisers to the Chief Minister. Former prominent student leader Lalmuanpuia Punte, who was also holding the post of Vice Chairman of the North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) for several years was appointed as Adviser to Chief Minister (Political) while TBC Lalvenchhunga was appointed as Adviser to CM (finance).

H. Ginzalal was appointed as Adviser to CM (technical) while Dr. Lorraine Lalpekliana Chinzah was appointed as Adviser to CM (Health & Family Welfare and Agriculture). All four ZPM legislators appointed as Advisers to the Chief Minister are first-time MLAs.

W. Chhuanawma, who defeated Deputy Chief Minister Tawnluia in Tuichang Assembly constituency, was appointed as Deputy Government Chief Whip. MNF legislature party leader and former School Education Minister Lalchhandama Ralte was officially appointed as leader of the opposition and assumed office on Thursday.

The MNF, defeated by ZPM in the just concluded 40-member state assembly election, bagged 10 seats enabling Ralte to become the leader of the opposition enjoying the facilities of a cabinet minister.
