Pune: As anticipation mounts for the announcement of the model code of conduct for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024, the Standing Committee of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated a flurry of activity by inviting tenders for a multitude of projects totalling a staggering Rs 129 crore.

With the looming spectre of the model code of conduct, slated for release anytime after March 15, the PMC finds itself racing against time to approve various infrastructure and development initiatives, including projects targeting newly included villages within the city’s purview.

A total of 47 tender applications have been invited by the municipal corporation, encompassing a diverse range of projects aimed at enhancing the city’s infrastructure landscape. Noteworthy among these tenders are proposals for the construction of a railway flyover spanning from Ghorpadi to the Miraj railway line and the development of a flyover and grade separator at Mukundrao Chowk. S.S.C. Infrastructure Private Limited has submitted a bid amounting to Rs 95.21 crore for the latter project, indicative of the substantial investment in the project.

Furthermore, tender applications have been received for vital environmental initiatives, including the removal of water hyacinth from Pashan Lake. Additionally, a slew of road infrastructure projects, such as road asphalting in areas like Somwar Peth, Mangalwar Peth, and Rasta Peth, have been included in the tender list, underscoring PMC’s development plan.

Notably, the standing committee is poised to deliberate and grant permissions for multiple projects, including the development of a double-penetration road from Church Road to Wanjale Chowk and architectural enhancements at the late Ramchandra Bankar Sports Complex. Moreover, vital infrastructure works are slated for execution in the Pune Cantonment Assembly constituency, encompassing water line laying and repair projects in the Dias Plot, Bhawani Peth, and Lullanagar areas.

In a bid to address pressing community needs, tenders have been floated for essential services such as drinking water supply by tankers and the development of R.C.C. culvert bridges from Sadhana Bank, Sade Satra Nali, Hadapsar, to Survey Numbers 176, 177, 241, and 242. The latter initiative aims to augment connectivity and drainage infrastructure in key locales, reflecting the PMC’s holistic approach to urban development.

Furthermore, plans are underway for the development of footpath and cycle track enhancements from Shankarsheth Road to Guru Nanak Nagar. These projects, along with several others, await approval from the standing committee in the upcoming meeting.
