Pune : Policenama online  – Pune PMC Water Supply | The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has started preparing the draft of the water supply scheme for the 34 merged villages. Of these villages, Sus, Mahalunge and Bavdhan Budruk water supply scheme draft plan will be ready within a week. Tenders will be floated and work will begin soon, said Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Vikram Kumar.

The PMC and the PMRDA are shifting the blame of the water crisis on each other. Tanker water is being supplied to housing societies cropped up around these villages. The civic body has started recovering general tax from the 23 merged villages last year in a phased manner. It is demanded that the civic body should also provide basic amenities as it is collecting the tax. However, the PMRDA has issued permissions to builders in these villages on the condition that they would take care of water supply. However, the high court recently directed the PMC to provide water to these villages.

When contacted, Municipal Commissioner said, “The civic body has started preparing the draft under the equitable water supply scheme to the 34 merged villages. Budgetary allocation has been made considering the needs of each village. Zone-wise 10 packages have been made. The draft for Sus, Mhalunge and Bavdhan Budruk is in the final stage. It will be ready within a week. We will immediately float tenders and start work as soon as possible.”

Giving details about the plan, PMC Water Supply Department Superintending Engineer Aniruddha Pawaskar said the scheme will be implemented in the 34 merged villages in 10 packages. Currently, the draft plan of Sus, Mhalunge and Bavdhan Budruk is in the final stage. The PMC is supplying water to Bavdhan Budruk by water pipeline on alternate days. Daily water supply will be made to the village by laying an additional pipeline. Of the 34 merged villages, garbage depot-affected Fursungi and Uruli Devachi followed by Sus, Mahalunge get the highest number of water tankers. Around 70 water tankers supply water to these villages. As per the plan, 17-18 water tanks of the capacity of 1.5 to 2 million litres will have to be built in these villages. Land reserved for amenity spaces and from the PMRDA DP could be acquired to build them.

Current water supply scenario in the 34 merged villages

*The water supply scheme being implemented by the Maharasthra Jeevan Pradhikaran is in the final stage in Fursungi and Uruli Devachi. Water supply will start to these areas by June end. Around 70% of the areas in the two villages will get water by pipeline.

*The Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran will complete the water supply scheme in Manjari by August 15.

*Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran supplies water to Wagholi. However, it is not enough due to the growing population there.

*The Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran scheme in Kondhve, Dhavde, Shivane and Uttam Nagar will soon be acquired.
