Pune News: Commuters will be saved from traffic jams: Double decker flyover being built at SPPU Chowk
PUNE: Policenama online – Pune News | The PMRDA is constructing a double decker flyover on the University Road to address the problem of traffic congestion at the Savitribai Phule Pune University Chowk. The flyover would begin from the RBI office and it will have three arms going towards Aundh, Baner and Pashan. The length of the flyover on both the sides will be 1.7 km and the width is 23 metres. The work of constructing 27 out of 32 pillars has been completed. Now, the work of installing pier arms on the pillar of the flyover has begun. The pier arm was installed opposite the E-Square multiplex. The pier arms are being prepared at Wagholi. The deadline for completing the flyover is August 15. Sources said that there is a possibility that the flyover would be thrown open for traffic on August 15.
The design of the flyover will be on the lines of the double decker flyover constructed at Nal Stop Chowk. It will be connected to the metro’s pillars. The raising of 288 piles has been completed and 28 pile caps have been installed. Deputy CM Ajit Pawar recently held a meeting to review the progress of the flyover work and issued instructions that the work should be completed till August 15, 2024.
Accordingly, the work has speeded up. Sources said that the PMC is carrying out the widening of the University Road to ensure that service road should be available while constructing the ramp on the Shivaji Nagar side.
PMRDA’s Chief Engineer Rinaz Pathan said, “The work of constructing a double decker flyover at the SPPU Chowk is going on at full speed. Till now, 27 pillars out of 32 have been raised and the work of installing pier arms is going on. It has been planned to complete the work of the flyover by August 15.”
