Pune: Spate of Burglaries Rocks Pune City! Thieves Make Off with Cash and Precious Ornaments


Pune: A wave of burglaries has swept through various neighbourhoods of Pune city, leaving residents reeling from significant losses of cash and precious jewellery totalling up to seven lakhs. The incidents, reported from Pune Camp, Katraj, Dhayari, and Vadgaon Sheri areas, have prompted local authorities to launch investigations into the brazen thefts.

In the bustling area of Pune Camp, near Rajasthan Bhawan, unknown perpetrators forcefully entered a shop by breaking its lock. Bharat Shankar Sutar, a resident of Shivneri Nagar, Kondhwa, reported the theft to Lashkar Police Station after discovering cash amounting to Rs 60,000 and silver jewellery missing, along with damage to the shop’s design machine. The incident unfolded on Wednesday, around 8:30 a.m., signalling a bold move by the thieves.

Further, in Katraj’s Rajgad Colony, another burglary unfolded in broad daylight. Ramjanbi Dawood Shaikh lodged a complaint with Bharti Vidyapeeth Police Station after returning home to find her house ransacked. Thieves had broken in and made off with cash and gold and silver ornaments worth 2,24,500 rupees. The incident, occurring on Tuesday around 11:30 a.m., underscores the audacity of the criminals.

In Dhayari’s Benkar Vasti, Lalit Dattatray Sapkal returned from accompanying his mother to the hospital to discover his residence targeted by burglars. Despite locking the house securely, thieves managed to gain entry and pilfer cash and jewellery valued at Rs. 2,52,000 from the bedroom cupboard. The incident, occurring between 11:45 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday, highlights the vulnerability of homes even during daylight hours.

Meanwhile, in Vadgaon Sheri, Yerawada, Mahadevi Shankar Rathod reported a similar break-in, with thieves making away with cash and gold and silver jewellery worth Rs. 1,48,000. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., adds to the growing concern over the surge in burglaries across the city.

Local police have launched investigations into each case separately to find the culprits.
