Pune | Strict police action needed to check spread of Omicron

0

Pune : Policenama online In the background of 10 Omicron virus cases reported in the city, no action by the police against people not following the norms is causing a risk to the life of other citizens. The risk of the spread of the new deadly virus is higher. However, the police are not taking strict action against violators.

When the Covid-19 pandemic started in March 2020, the police had raised barriers at the entry points of the city. There were strict restrictions imposed like not moving out without a proper valid reason, compulsory wearing of a mask, and keeping the social distance at public places.

However, it is seen that the police action has slowed down this year. Under the Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate’s jurisdiction, action has been taken against 2,29,156 people till date. However, the number of people acted upon declined drastically from September. In November, the action was taken against 99 violators while in December first week, no action was taken. From March 2020 till February 2021, the police took action against 1,18,716 citizens.

With the slowing down of police action, people are seen not following the pandemic norms such as washing hands, maintaining social distance, and wearing masks at public places in the city.

Many citizens insisted that strict action is necessary in this dire situation when Omicron cases are on the rise. When contacted, the police said flouting norms by the people has forced them to impose strict restrictions again.
