PUNE: The Sinhgad police suspended a sub-inspector from its department for negligence in work after the officer failed to appear in the court, following which the court remanded the accused judicial custody instead of police custody in a case.

The accused Roshan Lokhande and his accomplices had recently threatened shopkeepers on Sinhgad Road and spread fear among citizens. Despite the information, two officers did not inform senior officials of Sinhgad Road police about the arrest of the accused or the incident.

Upon suspension of the two cops, the case was handed over to Sub-Inspector Avinash Shinde. A senior police inspector had directed Shinde to increase the police custody of the accused by bringing the matter to the notice of the court. Shinde was also supposed to take the accused to the court and deposit Rs 2,200 seized from the accused.

Shinde had informed on WhatsApp that he will appear in the court but failed to do so. Later, he placed his responsibility on a constable. As a result, the court remanded the accused to judicial custody.

The same night, senior officers tried to contact Shinde, but he remained unavailable. Hence due to negligence in work, Additional Commissioner of Police Dr Sanjay Shinde suspended Sub-Inspector Avinash Shinde.
