25 May in History : From Shahzade Salim-Noorjahan’s Nikah to NASA Robots, Know What Happened on This Day

New Delhi : Many stories of the Mughal Sultanate have become famous, including Salim and Anarkali’s love story, probably the most familiar of this generation. However, this story became less known through history and more through films. The marriage of Jalaluddin Mohammad Akbar’s Shahzade Salim alias Jahangir and Mehrunnisa alias Noor Jahan took place on 25 May.

The day also witnessed another major incident. In 2013, it was May 25, when an 80-year-old Japanese climber took the record for climbing the Everest, the world’s highest mountain peak.

1611 : The Mughal ruler Jahangir marries Mehrunnisa, known in history as Noor Jahan.

1998 : European Union member countries agreed not to ban India due to nuclear tests.

2008 : A robot sent by the US Space Agency NASA landed on Mars today.

2011 : The final episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show airs. The longest-running television program made Oprah America’s most wealthy and influential figure.

2013 : 80-year-old Yuishiro Midra of Japan holds the record for the oldest climb to Mount Everest.
