Sajid Ahmed Sheikh from Aurangabad is a criminal on the police record. In this case, a 70-year-old woman living in Nimbaji Nagar lodged a complaint at the Sinhagad Road Police Station. The incident took place at Katraj Milk Parlor in Sun Empire Society on Sun City road between 9 am and 10 pm on Friday.
According to the police, the complainant was sitting near the gate of Sun Orbit society after a morning walk. A man came on a two-wheeler and said, “I know your son. He has won the lottery of Rs 2.5 lakh, our boss is waiting nearby. I will get you the money.” He then took her to the open space of the Katraj Milk Parlour shop in Sun Empire Society. He brought a chair and asked her to sit on it. The woman became doubtful about his intentions. She called her relatives and told them the incident. Relatives reported the matter to the police. The Sinhagad Road Police immediately rushed to the spot.
The thief asked the grandmother to show her hands and tried to forcefully grab the gold bangles and mangalsutra from her neck.
She resisted and shouted. Passers-by came forward to help, caught the thief and beat him up. By then the Sinhagad Road Police reached there. They took him into custody.
Sr PI Shailesh Sankhe said that Sajid Sheikh is a criminal on police record. As citizens beat him, he got injured. He is being treated at Sassoon Hospital. Assistant PI Nikam is investigating further.
