ATS records statements of 25 people, including Kandivli crime branch Inspector Sunil Mane in Mansukh Hiran death case

Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad, probing the death of Mansukh Hiran has recorded statements of 25 people said an official on Friday.

Meanwhile, ATS is also enquiring Kandivli crime branch unit Police Inspector Sunil Mane is the case. Mansukh Hiran’s wife, Vimal, had claimed that before his death, Hiran had received a call from a cop named Tawde from Kandivli Crime branch.

The ATS on Wednesday also confirmed that the diatom test report of the deceased businessman has returned positive. “Diatom test done at GMC is positive. However, ATS is sending the report to the forensic science lab (FSL) Madhuban, Haryana for confirmation. Meanwhile, the ATS is investigating the case as murder only,” said ATS officials. Diatom test is an important tool in the diagnosis of death in drowning cases.

A Mahindra Scorpio sports utility vehicle (SUV), with 20 gelatin sticks inside, was found near Ambani’s high-rise south Mumbai home on February 25. Police said the vehicle was stolen from Airoli-Mulund Bridge on February 18. Last Friday, the owner of the vehicle, Mansukh Hiren, was found dead in a creek in Thane, sparking a political row with the opposition BJP demanding that the case be handed over to the NIA.

A week later, the body of Hiren, the Scorpio owner, was recovered from Kalwa Creek (on March 5), hours after his family reported him missing. Hiren had reported the theft of his car on February 18. The Mumbai Police has registered a case of murder and criminal conspiracy in Hiren’s death.

Sachin Waze is at the focus of a probe by the National Investigating Agency in a case related to the recovery of an SUV with explosives near Ambani’s house in Mumbai. Mumbai police officer Waze, arrested in the case on March 13 for his alleged role in the crime, was attached to the Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) of the city police’s crime branch till recently. He was suspended after NIA arrested him in the case.
