BJP will launch agitation if MVA government delays collection of empirical data of OBCs, says Chandrakant Patil
Pune : Policenama online Bharatiya Janata Party’s state president Chandrakant Patil has warned that the party will launch a stir if the state government dilly dallies about the collection of empirical data of the Other Backward Classes.
He alleged that the OBCs have been denied reservation in local bodies because the government had avoided collecting the empirical data.
He said that the OBCs have been denied reservation in forthcoming elections of zillla parishad, municipal corporations and municipal councils due to carelessness of the state government.
The Supreme Court had told the MVA government to complete the triple test for reservation of OBCs in local bodies. One of the important factors in the test is collection of empirical data in which the exact number of OBCs in a particular area and the extent of their backwardness in the political representation can be determined, he said.
Unless this is done, OBCs will not get political reservation again and this fact was conveyed repeatedly to the state government by opposition leader Devendra Fadnavis.
However, the MVA government has not provided enough funds and other resources to the Backward Classes Commission to collect the empirical data. Hence, it is evident that the government is avoiding collecting this data.
The MVA government does not have any excuse after the decision of the Supreme Court and it has to collect the data to ensure reservation for the OBCs. He added that if the government continues its delaying tactics, the party will start an agitation on the issue.
He added that due to the faulty order issued by the government, OBCs have been deprived of reservation in two zilla parishads and 106 municipal councils in Bhandara and Gondia districts.The community has suffered greatly and the BJP strongly protests against this, he said.
The government wants to deny reservation to OBCs in the forthcoming local bodies polls but the BJP will ensure that this does not happen, he added.
