Cyber crime police help victims get back Rs 18.25 lakh in one week
Pune, Policenama Online – Cyber crime is on a rise in the city. The officials of the cyber crime police station of the Pune police have helped victims of cyber crime by recovering 18.25 lakh with one week.
The officials have recovered the amount by solving 59 cases of debit and credit card frauds which were reported at the cyber police station. “Although people are aware of contacting the police, the number of such frauds is on the rise, which is a cause of concern,” said an official.
According to the police, the victims get calls from cyber fraudsters who try to phish bank details of the victims before launching the cyber attack.
“Once the fraudsters are aware of the bank details, they use the same either for online shopping or mobile payment,” an official informed.
The official also said that the fraudsters target accounts in both public and private banks. “If the victims approach the police on time, they try to freeze the transactions which helps to revert the transacted amount to the victim’s account,” the official informed.
“Banks then take a few days’ time to verify the transaction before the amount is reverted to the victim’s account,” he added.
Altogether, the police officials were able to save Rs 18.25 lakh belonging to cyber crime victims.
