Kerala government schools turned into high-tech classrooms, 16,027 schools equipped with 3.74 lakh digital gadgets

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE) under high-tech classroom scheme has implemented the Hi-Tech school programme which made 45,000 classrooms in 4,752 schools Hi-Tech and techno- savvy. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on Monday, “Kerala is the first state in the country to have high-tech labs in all government-run and aided schools”.

The project has equipped 16,027 schools from primary to higher secondary level with the 3.74 lakh digital gadgets, according to the project document. The project was funded by Kerala infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) spending 493.50 crore on the scheme to provide updated education.

The flagship project of the LDF government has converted 40, 000 classrooms of higher secondary schools into smart classrooms. The high-tech labs have been set up in primary and upper primary schools. The high speed broadband internet has been ensured in 12,678 schools.

According to the government, it was determined to give quality education to all sections of people. The motto of the government was to ensure digital facilities for children in rural areas too and to improve facilities at schools in rural areas as provided in high-end schools in urban areas. The Chief Minister said that as part of the project, 2 lakh laptops have been distributed in schools.

Further CM added, “To improve the state’s public education, the government has ensured people’s participation. The three-tier local bodies have been given responsibility of reviving the public education system. The government schools which were on the verge of closure have been revived”. “Kerala schools now have world-class facilities and this has brought in changes in the academic sector also,’’ he said. The official statement stated, legislators and MPs have contributed from their local area development fund.
