The Madras High Court on Tuesday dismissed the Rajnikanth Tax pleas and also warned him to pay a penalty. The film actor and superstar Rajinikanth had reached the court against the tax demand of Rs 6.50 lakh as property tax for his Sri Raghavendra Kalyan Mandapam by Greater Chennai Corporation located in Kodambakam, Chennai in Tamil Nadu.

The court warned Rajinikanth that the cost would be levied to the demand for tax. Rajnikanth’s lawyer asked for more time to withdraw his case. Rajinikanth stated in his plea that the marriage hall has been vacant since March 24, 2020, after the announcement due to coronavirus-induced lockdown. Therefore no revenue was earned. According to a media report, earlier the Greater Chennai Corporation sent a property tax notice to the Tamil superstar on a half-yearly basis.
Rajinikanth was given a hard time by the Income Tax department some 15 years ago. The Income Tax made him pay up some Rs 66 lakh all these years. In the month of February, the Income Tax department withdrew all proceedings against actor Rajinikanth for alleged concealment of income because the penalty to be recovered was less than ₹1 crore. According to reports, they had chosen to levy a minimum penalty of ₹66.21 lakh, while the maximum penalty would have been ₹1.98 crore
