Jammu, Dec 27 (UNI)- Stating that every countrymen and the Government of India is standing by them, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday encouraged the Army jawans to move ahead with a ‘sankalp’ (resolution) of wiping out terrorism from Jammu and Kashmir.

“We are grateful to the families contributing to nation building by sending you to join the Indian Army despite many challenges,” Singh said while interacting with troops in Rajouri district.

He visited Jammu to review the security situation in the wake of a recent terrorist ambush in the border district of Poonch that left four soldiers dead.

“Our jawans are doing a great task and the nation is indebted to your valour and sacrifices,” Rajnath said, adding, “We have to end terrorism but at the same time, we also have to win the hearts of countrymen.”

“As a Defence Minister, I salute you and your role towards the country. Move forward with a determination to wipe out terrorism from J&K,” the Defence Minister said while uplifting morale of the troops.

On the Poonch ambush, he said, “it is a major incident. Sensing the seriousness of the incident, all required measures are being taken. For us, every soldier is very important and they are like our family members.”

“I pay tributes to martyred troops as a Defence Minister and also express condolences to their families,” said Singh while wishing speedy recovery to injured soldiers.

However, without making a mention about deaths of three civilians, Singh said, “Indian Army is not a normal force. It is more powerful and well equipped.”

“You are protectors of the nation but at the same time, you also have to win the hearts of the citizens,” Rajnath asserted.

“The mistakes that hurt sentiments of the people must be avoided. Your role is very important and perform it seriously,” he said.

The Defence Minister with encouraging words said that anybody who tries to damage you (Army), will be unacceptable, adding, “security and intelligence agencies are playing their role and all required help will be provided to strengthen our security system for which the government treasury is always open.”

“Such incidents (Poonch ambush) cannot be taken for granted. We have to be more alert and cautious. You (soldiers) are the pride of every Indian citizen,” Singh said.

He said that the sacrifices, valour and determination of Indian Army soldiers towards the motherland are unmatchable.

“Compensations cannot compensate for your sacrifices. I want to assure you that the government is committed to fulfil all your needs on priority,” said Rajanth and added, “vacuum created can never be fulfilled but we have to be firm to protect our motherland.”
