Pakistan bans Wikipedia over ‘sacrilegious content’

Islamabad, New Delhi, Feb 4(UNI) – Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Saturday banned online encyclopedia Wikipedia in the country for not “blocking/removing sacrilegious content”.

 

On Wednesday PTA had degraded Wikipedia services countrywide for not complying with the directives for the removal of controversial content from its platform. (Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA))

 

Dawn quoted an official of the regulatory body saying that the decision was taken as Wikipedia had neither responded to its requests, nor taken down the content in question.
