PMRDA to develop basic facilities at Mhalunge-Mann TP scheme

Pune : Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) will develop basic facilities at the first Town Planning (TP) scheme being developed by PMRDA in Mhalunge-Maan, instead of giving it to a private contractor.

PMRDA had allocated about Rs 6.50 crore for the basic facilities but now the work will be carried out on priority basis and will be executed accordingly phase-wise.

The scheme was to be implemented to complete road works before the initiation of Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar metro project work. It included development of 12-to-30-meter road, water supply, drainage, power supply etc. The contract to develop the facilities was to be given to a private contractor. However, post Covid the calculations changed. Considering this PMRDA decided to develop the facilities itself instead involving a private party.

Mhalunge-Mann area is adjacent to Rajiv Gandhi IT Park. There were plans to develop Mhalunge-Mann Hitech City on the land that would have been available from the TP scheme. Former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had laid the foundation stone. However, because of pandemic most companies have asked employees to work from home. In the wake of the third wave, it is unlikely that the offices will resume any sooner. Therefore, instead of spending on new facilities PMRDA would focus on developing basic facilities on priority.

PMRDA had starting acquiring land for public services under Mhalunge-Mann TP scheme. The land was acquired from over 5000 land owners. PMRDA has returned the land in the TP scheme to some of these landowners.

It is important that the roads and service lanes are done on priority otherwise the whole purpose of the scheme is likely to be defeated.
