Pune: Commissioner of Police (CP) Amitesh Kumar had issued prohibitory orders under section 144 in the city. However, in a video that has gone viral on social media, groups of youths could be seen till the wee hours near Elrow Pub in Kalyani Nagar on Sunday.

Moreover, many two- and four-wheelers and a police van could be seen in the areas around pubs. Now, CP Kumar has launched a probe into this.

The Pune Police busted a drugs factory in the MIDC, Kurkumbh. They also seized drugs worth around Rs 4,000 crore at various places across the country. Investigation agencies suspect that these drugs are consumed in big quantities in late night parties organized at hotels, restaurants and pubs. Therefore, CP Kumar had issued directives to monitor movements around these places. He had also directed to take strict action against pubs and bars that operate beyond 1.30 am.

There are many pubs and bars in some localities in Pune. Local residents often complain of noise pollution till the wee hours around these pubs. The viral video indicates that the CP’s directive is not being followed. The video shows groups of youth lingering around on the road near these pubs.

The bars and pubs have orders to close at 1.30 am. However, crowds can be seen in their vicinity at 3 am too. Cars could be seen parked on the roadside. Many youths could be seen standing and chatting in groups. Cabs and auto men were spotted waiting for passengers.

Meanwhile, a police van was also spotted in the video. This raises questions about clamping of section 144 and the police not taking action against crowds seen on the roads.

When contacted, CP Amitesh Kumar said that he has directed officials to take action after an inquiry into this.
