Pune: A complaint has been lodged with Swargate police against Sharjeel Usmani, a former student leader of Aligarh Muslim University, for creating religious rift and hurting religious sentiments with his speech at the ‘Elgar Parishad 2021’ held on Sunday (January 31) at Ganesh Kala Krida Mandir.

The organizers had also invited Sharjeel Usmani, a former student leader of Aligarh Muslim University, to speak at the event. Accordingly, he attended the conference.  According to the complaint filed by Advocate Pradeep Gawde, Usmani in his speech allegedly said that “Hindu society is rotten”. The complaint alleged that Usmani made offensive and provocative statements against the Indian Union and Hindus in his speech during Elgar Parishad.

Advocate Gawde alleged that Usmani’s statement was hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus and creating religious rift between the two societies. He also alleged that Usmani’s statement that “I do not believe in Indian federation” is an insult to the Indian judiciary, legislature and administration.

“His statement is an insult to the Indian Union and creates hatred towards the Indian Union. This is an offense under Section 124 (a) of the Indian Penal Code. However, action should be taken against Usmani by filing a case under the relevant section”, Advocate Gawde mentioned in his complaint to the Swargate Police.
