Pune: Machete-Wielding Youth Apprehended by Khadak Police in Subhashnagar Incident

Pune: The reckless brandishing of a machete in daylight has led to the apprehension of a young man by Khadak police. The incident transpired on Monday, April 1 at around 12:30 p.m. in front of Neha Apartment at Subhashnagar Lane No. 6.

Mahesh Siddappa Bhandari, a 22-year-old resident near Shankar Mandir, Lane No. 19, Janata Vasahat, Parvati, Pune, has been arrested under the Arms Act and Maharashtra Police Act. A complaint filed by Police Constable Bhalchandra Baban Divte at Khadak police station prompted swift action.

The incident unfolded as a college girl from Subhashnagar was on her way home from college. At that time, two youths on a bike approached her, with one of them menacingly brandishing a machete in the air. Fearing for her safety, the girl fled the scene. Upon confrontation by citizens about this reckless behaviour, the young man brazenly hurled abuses at people before absconding from the scene.

Promptly alerted by concerned citizens, the control room of Pune Police relayed the information to on-duty officers at Fadgate police station, providing a description of the assailant. Based on the photo and details, Khadak police swiftly traced and apprehended the suspect from Neha Apartment in Subhashnagar. Upon search, an iron machete worth Rs. 200 was recovered from his possession, concealed within his waist.

Senior Police Inspector Ravindra Gaikwad, along with Police Inspector (Crime) Sampatrao Raut and Police Sub-Inspectors Vishal Mhetre and Prahlad Dongle, promptly visited the scene. Further investigations in this case are underway.
