Pune | Man posing as Ahmedabad CP asked money from police, arrested from Goregaon

Pimpri : Policenama online Pune | An accused posing as the Commissioner of Police (CP), demanded money from police for giving a tip off about an illegal deal of a few pistols. However, the social security squad of Pimpri Chinchwad police laid a trap and arrested him from Goregaon.

The incident occurred between December 8 and 28. The accused Khalilullaha Aiyanulla Khan called up in the police control room and introduced himself as Vijay Singh, CP of Ahmedabad. He asked for contact details of Pimpri Chinchwad CP. He was given the details. He called up again saying the CP did not respond and said that he wanted to give information about a deal of pistols in Pimpri Chinchwad and asked for contact numbers of DCP Crime Branch and ACP. He got the numbers from the control room.

He again called up and asked for the contact details of Police Inspector Devendra Chavan from the social security department and PSI Dr Ashok Dongre. He called up Dongre who shared the contact number of PSI Pradipsingh Sisode with the accused. The accused told Sisode that he was an informer and informed about the secret deal of 4-5 pistols which was to take place in Pimpri Chinchwad. He also sent photographs to convince the police and demanded Rs 15,000. The bank details he sent to the police were in the name of Khalilullaha Aiyanullaa Khan.

PI Devendra Chavan sensed something fishy. When he got into the details he found that the accused was in Goregaon. So a squad was sent to Goregaon. Meanwhile, Rs 15,000 and additional Rs 9000 were deposited to mislead the accused. He was arrested.

Offence is registered against him at Malad, Goregaon and Oshiwara police station for similar offences.

Modus operandi
Since 2015 the accused had been called up the police control room at various places posing as a police officer or informer. He would ask for contact details of senior officials saying he wanted to give a tip off about a secret pistol deal and asked for money. Once he got the money he would avoid the police and would switch off the phone.

PI Devendra Chavan lodged a complaint with Pimpri Chinchwad police. PI Kishor Patil is investigating the matter.

The case was solved under the guidance of CP Krishna Prakash, additional CP Sanjay Shinde, DCP Kakasaheb Dole, ACP Dr Prashant Amritkar by the team comprising PI Devendra Chavan, API Sagar Pannand, PSI Pradeepsingh Sisode, Dhairyashil Solanke, Machhindra Ghanvat, Vijay Kamble, Kishor Padher, Santosh Barge, Sunil Shirsat, Nitin Londhe, Maruti Karchunde, Ganresh Karote, Atul Lokhande, Yogesh Tidke, Nitesh Bachhewar, Nagesh Mali, Bhagwanta Muthe, Vaishnavi Gawade, Rajesh Kokate, Sonali Mane, Amol Sadekar, Sumit Damal, Amol Shinde.
