Pune | RTI activist Ravindra Barate arrested by Chatuhshrungi police in MCOCA
Pune : Policenama online – Right to Information activist Ravindra Barate was on Thursday arrested by the Chatuhshrungi police under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
A police team went to Harsul prison in Aurangabad to take custody of Barate and he was brought to Pune. He was produced in the court and was remanded to police custody till January 11.
More than seventeen crimes are registered against Barate at various police stations in Pune city. He was absconding after an extortion case was filed against him at Kothrud police station. He was absconding for about 18 months after the Supreme Court rejected his pre-arrest bail plea.
On July 6, 2021, the crime branch officials had arrested him for a MCOCA crime in the jurisdiction of Hadapsar police station. He was later sent to the prison.
