Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik files defamation case of Rs 100 crore against Kirit Somaiya

Mumbai :  Policenama online – Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kirit Somaiya has always been accusing Shiv Sena leaders. Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik has also accused him of financial misconduct. It may be recalled that a few days ago the ED had also raided the house of Pratap Sarnaik. However, now that Pratap Sarnaik has turned aggressive, he has filed a defamation case against Kirit Somaiya. The case has been filed in Thane’s special civil court.

Sarnaik said the allegations leveled by Kirit Somaiya are baseless and irresponsible. MLA Sarnaik had announced that he would file a defamation case against Kirit Somaiya if he did not apologize for the false statements. Under this, MLA Pratap Sarnaik has filed a special civil case worth Rs 100 crore against Kirit Somaiya in a Thane court. The suit was filed recently and Somaiya will now have to answer the court.

It is alleged that Director of Yuva Pratishthan Medha Kirit Somaiya used the political power of her husband Kirit Somaiya of BJP to build public toilets at 16 places in CRZ and Kandalvan area by spoiling the environment in Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation area. It is being said that all unauthorised toilet bills have been recovered by cheating the municipal officials and submitting false documents. MLA Sarnaik had in February demanded registration of a case against the Somaiya couple in the case.

After making this demand from the Chief Minister,
Urban Development Minister and Home Minister, the government had also sought a report on the matter.
State Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde had sought a report from Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation in this regard and the corporation submitted the report to the government.
It is clear in that report that the construction of toilets has been done by spoiling the environment. The state home minister had also referred the matter to the Economic Offences Wing and directed further legal action.

At that time Sarnaik had announced that he would file a defamation suit against Somaiya. MLA Sarnaik had sent a notice to Somaiya. The notice also said that he should apologize for the defamation. Kirit Somaiya did not respond to the notice sent by Sarnaik. Hence, as mentioned, MLA Sarnaik has filed a claim of Rs 100 crore against Somaiya. For this, about 3 lakh stamp duty has been paid in the court.
