Three Covid deaths in Karnataka: CM Siddaramaiah

Bengaluru, Dec 21 (UNI)- Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday said three Covid deaths have been recorded in the state.

“So far three persons have died not because of Covid alone, but they were also suffering from other ailments,” he told reporters here in a press conference after convening a meeting on assessing Covid preparedness in the state.

Members of the technical advisory committee and other experts also attended the meeting, apart from Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, Health Minister Dinesh Gundurao and Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara.

However, Siddaramaiah advised people not to panic, but to take precautionary measures and should wear masks in public gatherings.

He asked 60-plus aged people to mandatorily wear masks and said as many as 92 Covid cases have been detected in Karnataka, out of which 72 patients are in home quarantine. There are only 20 patients undergoing treatment in hospitals, the CM said.

Out of the 20 patients, seven are in the ICU, Siddaramaiah said and added that they are also suffering from other diseases, apart from COVID-19.

He also said that a cabinet sub-committee will be constituted, and will meet frequently if necessary in 2 or 3 days to assess the Covid situation in the state.

Also, the government will implement the decisions taken by the Technical Advisory Committee, the CM said.

Siddaramaiah said a decision will be taken to increase Covid tests to 5,000 every day. About 51,214 cases of Covid are reported daily in the world and in India, only 310 cases are reported, he said.

As many as 92 cases have been reported in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu (77), Maharashtra (35) and Goa (23), the Chief Minister said.

He said strict directions have been given to officers concerned, not repeat the lapses made by the previous BJP government and take necessary precautions.
