6 Migrants Stranded in Sea Tried Suicide, No Country Ready to Give Shelter

Rome : Depressed after not getting a shelter from any country, 6 migrants aboard a rescue ship in the Mediterranean Sea tried to commit suicide. At the same time, the situation was seen to be uncontrollable when some other migrants tried to threaten fellow passengers and crew members. The SOS Mediterranean, the charitable organization that operates the ‘Ocean Viking’ ship, said in a statement on Friday that an emergency has been announced in view of the deteriorating condition in the ship.

Total 180 migrants aboard the ship
According to reports, this ship stranded in the sea has a total of 180 migrants. The organization said it has made 7 requests to allow entry into the port, but Italy and Malta have refused permission. The government of any country in Italy and Malta has not responded to the alleged denials. These migrants were rescued from unsafe boats in the ocean from smugglers during four expeditions between 25 June and 30 June.

Migrants are under psychological pressure
The organization said that among the rescued are one pregnant woman and 25 minors, of whom 17 are traveling without any relatives or guardians. He said that 6 people aboard the ship allegedly tried to commit suicide. The organization said that due to not being granted shelter by any country, migrants are facing psychological pressure and in desperation, are taking steps like suicide attempt, quarrel and bullying.
