Bibwewadi police seize 22 kg cannabis worth Rs 5.77 lakh, one arrested

Pune: In a major breakthrough, Bibwewadi police have seized 22 kilograms of ganja and arrested one person on Wednesday, the police said.

The seized ganja is worth Rs 5.77 lakhs in the market, the police said. Meanwhile, Assistant Inspector Rajesh Usgavkar of Bibwewadi police station and his staff were patrolling the area at midnight. At around 12 o’clock in the night, a man was seen standing on a two-wheeler in front of Goyal Garden in Aai Mata Mandir area.

On suspicion, the police approached the accused but he tried to flee from the scene. Police laid a trap for the accused persons and when a suspected vehicle did not stop despite police calls, a team followed it, arrested the accused, and seized the Ganja packed in bags.

22 kg 44 grams of cannabis worth Rs 5.77 lakh 77 has been seized from his possession.

The accused has been identified as Nisar Modin Jamadar (25), resident of Loni Kalbhor, native of Osmanabad district. A case was registered against him under relevant sections of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. He was produced in court and remanded in police custody till March 20, the officials said.

The action was taken under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police Namrata Patil and was led by a team of Senior Inspector Sunil Jhaware, Assistant Inspectors Rajesh Usgavkar, Police personnel Sham Lohomkar, Amit Pujari and Satish More.
