Panipat: A young man died by suicide after his live-in-girlfriend refused to marry him, the police said on Wednesday. Reportedly, his girlfriend was already married and mother of three children.
“We received information over the phone that a tenant had died by suicide in a house in front of Indian Bank Burst Road,” the investigating officer said. The police further broke the door and recovered his body.
The deceased a resident of Sonipat village had met the woman via Facebook five months ago. The two became friends first and then fell in love. The two later fled the house after stealing Rs 5 lakh each and started living together, the police said.
The woman allegedly kept luring the man into marrying him and later refused to do the same. According to the police, the deceased was raged and anxious by this and hence attempted suicide. The police have sent his body for post mortem.
Police said a preliminary investigation revealed that the two had fled the house with Rs 5 lakh. Arguments broke between the couple once the money started running out.
Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased have demanded action against the woman and alleged that he killed her. Accordingly, the police have registered a complaint against her and will further investigate the case.
