Pune | Ambegaon Khurd residents deprived of drinking water for over a month
Pune : Policenama online – Residents of newly merged village of Ambegaon Khurd in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) have not been getting water for the past one month.
Residents of Shantai Heights, Kamble Heights, Tanaji Heights, Laxmi Sparsh, Kulswamini Heights, Chowdiah Heights, Modak Building, and Tikote Heights societies are not getting water. Former sarpanch Amar Chindhe is providing tanker water to these societies.
In June 2021, the state government took the decision to merge 23 fringe villages within the PMC limits. Later, the PMC sanctioned Rs 80 crore to provide basic facilities to the newly merged villages. However, the civic body has not taken substantial steps to provide basic facilities to residents of the 23 merged villages.
Former sarpanch Amar Chindhe warned of an agitation, he said, “There is a water pipeline blockage problem near Chowdai Mata Mandir area in Ambegaon Khurd village. So, most of the societies are not getting water. Water supply department officials can easily solve the blockage problem by cleaning water pipes with the help of jet machines. But they are not paying attention to this problem.”
Nanda Pote, local resident of Ambegaon Khurd, said, “We are not getting drinking water. It is a very annoying situation. We are not getting basic facilities from the PMC despite being a part of the civic body.”
Sonali Tikote, Vandan Kamble, Geeta Ahire and Pinky Devkar expressed similar sentiments.
