Pune: In a big financial fraud in the city, a Pune resident, Rajesh Narayanarao Dhamdhere (55), was conned out of Rs 40 lakh, 82 thousand, and 551 by an individual from New Delhi. The accused, Gaurav Digvijaynath Pandey, falsely claiming to be the Income Tax Commissioner, promised Dhamdhere’s elder daughter a permanent job with either the Reserve Bank of India or the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) in Delhi.

The given fraud unfolded between January 2023 and October 2023 at DSK Vishwa Road, Dhairi, with Dhamdhere filing a complaint at the Sinhagad Road Police Station. A case under IPC 420 and 406 has been registered against Gaurav Pandey.

According to police reports, Pandey gained the trust of Rajesh Dhamdhere and collected a total sum of Rs 40,82,551 at various intervals, ostensibly to secure employment for the complainant’s daughter. To make the scam more convincing, the accused even forged an appointment letter in the name of the plaintiff’s daughter, leading her to resign from her current job.

However, the sinister plot unfolded when Rajesh Dhamdhere discovered that the appointment letter was counterfeit. Demanding the return of his money, Dhamdhere found himself misled by Pandey, who failed to provide employment for the victim’s daughter and refused to return the fraudulently obtained funds.

The Sinhagad Road Police took swift action upon receiving the plaintiff’s complaint and initiated an investigation. A case has been registered against Gaurav Pandey, and Police Sub-Inspector Sawant is currently leading further inquiries into this elaborate financial scam that has left the victim’s family in distress.
