Pune : Policenama online The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) conducts raids to rid society of corruption. The ACB filed around 726 bribery cases and registered offences against 1,045 people across the State in the current year. The highest number of cases (65) have been reported from Pune district. Thus, the district has again got the dubious distinction of being number one in corruption.

Aurangabad and Nashik districts are at number two and three in the number of graft cases, with 52 and 39 cases, respectively.

The ACB monitors 44 various government departments for bribery cases.

Revenue and Police departments most corrupt

Among the highest number of cases from a government department, the Revenue department topped the chart with 171 cases while the Police department had 166 cases and stood at number 2.

The highest arrests (246) on graft charges have been made from the Police department while 244 officials of the Revenue department were held.

Zone-wise number one too

The ACB works in eight zones in the State, including Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Nashik, Nagpur, Amravati, Aurangabad and Nanded.

Under the Pune zone come five districts of Pune, Satara, Sangli, Solapur and Kolhapur. In 2019, the ACB took 866 actions. The Pune zone topped then with 184 actions. In 2020, the Pune zone had the highest cases (139). Nashik had 100 and Aurangabad had 93 cases.

SP (ACB), Pune Rajesh Bansode said, “It is appropriate to say that Pune tops in reporting the highest cases of graft to the ACB rather than calling it the most corrupt zone in the State. The highest number of actions have been taken in the Pune zone because of the highest number of corruption complaints. We appeal to citizens in other districts also to report bribery cases; however, the response from other districts is less.”
