Pune: Sunil Tingre, an MLA of the Vadgaon Sheri constituency, demanded a complete exemption of the penalty tax for the entire Pune city on Wednesday. In this regard, he has given a memorandum of appeal to the Deputy Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar.

Earlier, the state government ordered the Pune Municipal Corporation to suspend the recovery of penalties for unauthorised construction in the newly incorporated villages and the two percent penalty levied on the annual arrears of property tax. This order has brought great relief to the residents of the affected villages.

Similarly, Sunil Tingre also demanded a complete exemption from the penalty tax for Pune city. In his memorandum of appeal to Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, he said that recently the state government held a meeting regarding the income tax of the villages included in the municipal corporation. In this meeting, all ministers demanded to cancel the punitive tax of one and a half times levied on residential unauthorised income and three times levied on commercial income.

In this regard, according to the suggestions, the state government has sought information from the municipal corporation. Accordingly, there are speculations in the city that a decision to cancel this punitive tax will be taken at the cabinet meeting to be held on Wednesday. However, Tingre raised his discontent on the issue that this tax exemption will only be available to the newly included villages in the city.

Tingre demanded that, as the punitive tax on all types of unauthorised income in Pimpri Chinchwad city was waived summarily, the same decision should be applied to Pune city. He requested Ajit Pawar to take a decision regarding the complete exemption of punitive tax on the income of the entire city, including the villages involved. Tingre also submitted copies of the appeal to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
