Sepoy Amit Sharma cremated with full state honours in Hamirpur village

Hamirpur (HP), Jan 16 (UNI) – Amid slogans of Shaheed Amit Sharma amar rahe, several hundred people of Hamirpur district Monday gave a final farewell to him when his brother lit the pyre on Monday morning.

 

The body of the martyr who was killed in a road accident in Kupwara, Jammu and Kashmir last week was brought to his village Talasi Khurd where people offered flower petals and raised slogans. The family also performed the religious ceremonies before the body was sent to the crematorium for the final rites.

 

Leaders of various political parties and senior civil officers were also present at the house of the martyr when his body reached there.

 

Parents of the martyr were sobbing and locals were consoling them.

 

Sepoy Amit Sharma was posted in the Machhil sector of Kupwara in the 14 Dogra Regiment of the Indian Army. It was told that while patrolling in the snowy area on Tuesday night, the army vehicle slipped from the snow and fell into the ditch, due to which three soldiers including Amit Sharma were killed.

 

Amit Sharma (23), son of Vijay Kumar, resident of Talasi Khurd village of Hamirpur was unmarried and was recruited in the 14th Dogra regiment in Indian army in the year 2019.

 

He had completed his studies from class 6 to 12 from Government Senior Secondary School, Jhugriani.

 

SDM Manish Soni said the dead body was taken from Srinagar to Jammu on Sunday morning. From there it was sent to Chandigarh on its way to his home village of Talasi Khurd.

 

The family of the martyr is upset as his Grandfather had passed away 6 months ago and the grandmother about ten days ago and no one was able to bear the sudden shock of the demise of Amit Sharma.

 

Amit’s father Vijay Kumar said the family was broken due to Amit’s sudden death.

 

Amit was the sole breadwinner in the house, but now that support is gone, yet I am proud of my son.
