SIT to investigate transaction of Rs 16,180 cr: DyCM

Nagpur, Dec 15 (UNI)- Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday informed in the Maharashtra Assembly that the state government will set up an SIT (Special Investigation Team) to investigate if amount of Rs 16,180 crore that was transferred to the bank account of a payment gateway company was similar to a digital hawala platform.

Replying to a question raised by member Sunil Prabhu during the Question Hour in the lower house, he said that a bank account of a company providing payment gateway and pay out facilities located at Wagle Estate area in Thane city was hacked and a transaction of Rs 16,180 crore was made.

This transaction had been done by opening more than 260 bank accounts at different places, he said and informed that for this, 97 fake notarised agreements were made.

Giving more information, the Home minister said that since the scope of this matter is at the national level, the state will seek the help of central investigation agency and various other states.

“If any bank is found to be involved in this, action will be taken against the bank. Banks must strictly follow the Customer Identity Verification (KYC) norms,” he said.

Due to huge scope of transaction, the case would be investigated by an SIT, he said and informed that it will be granted a period of three months in the first phase.

Also, orders will be given to conduct forensic audit of all related accounts, he further informed.

Fadnavis further said, “Maharashtra Cyber ​​Project has been undertaken to increase the capacity of the state’s Cyber Cell to bring control on such crimes and facilitate investigation in such cases. Through this, a quick response system will be set up.”

Talking about Data Protection Act, he said that the central government has brought in this Act to keep personal information safe and in this, all possibilities of data leakage have been taken into consideration, he stated.

Being a universal law, the central government has launched Aadhaar verification campaign to update and verify Aadhaar card information, he said. “If necessary, such a system will be set up in the state to check data leakage,” he added.
