Death toll rises to 3 in Navale bridge accident, 6 injured under treatment

Pune: The Navale Bridge route is already coined as a notorious one when it comes to road mishaps. The route witnessed an accident on Sunday evening wherein a 64-year-old autorickshaw driver and two motorcyclists were killed while six others were injured, two of them seriously, after a truck rammed into several vehicles near Navale bridge on the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass here around 6pm on Sunday.

The 22-wheel container truck lost control of the vehicle and either rammed or caused the collision of eight vehicles – five four-wheelers, one auto-rickshaw and two two-wheelers.

The incident took place at 5.45 pm on the road from Katraj to Navale Bridge. According to police, the driver of the truck lost control due to suspected brake failure.

According to the information received from the Sinhagad Police Station cops, Rajendra Murlidhar Gadhve, the autorickshaw driver from Ambegaon (65), was killed on the spot while the two motorcyclists, Prashant Gore (32) and Nikhil Awate (25), succumbed to their injuries at the Sassoon General Hospital.

The severely injured  were immediately taken to the Sasson hospital while the other injured were taken to private hospitals near the accident site.The cops have detained the trailer truck driver, Premaram Pannaram Bishnoi, from Jodhpur in Rajasthan.
