MUMBAI : Policenama online Chandrakant Patil | A new controversy has been created because of the statement made by Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil about Babri Masjid and Balasaheb Thackeray. Chandrakant Patil held a press conference to clarify his statements. “I have high regard for Balasaheb Thackeray and I will not commit the sin of insulting him. Hindus in Mumbai are alive because of Balasaheb Thackeray. Babri Masjid’s structure was pulled down by Hindus and they were led by Vishwa Hindu Parishad. It was not pulled down by a single party,” Patil said. (Chandrakant Patil)

“Balasaheb Thackeray dedicated his life for the Hindus and I never had disrespect for him. A thought about insulting Balasaheb and belittling him will never come in my mind. Earlier also, I have spoken about Balasaheb in a respectful manner and expressed my gratitude towards him,” he said.

“An agitation was started in 1983 to reiterate that Ayodhya was the birthplace of Lord Ram. The agitation was led by VHP. Bajrang Dal and Durga Vahini were with VHP. All agitations held at that time were led by VHP. Hence, while pulling down the structure of Babri Masjid, there was no question of trying to differentiate an activist from another activist. Everyone was a Hindu. All this happened under the banner of VHP. At that time, the Late Anand Dighe had sent a golden brick for the Ayodhya temple. There were no differences between the activists and they pulled down the structure of the masjid,” he said.

“I have good ties with Balasaheb Thackeray, Matoshree and Uddhav Thackeray. Since childhood, I had the opportunity to see Balasaheb Thackeray and be with him. Hence, I have a high regard for him. My statements are always twisted out of context. Those having political motives create controversies. I will not tolerate any allegations over any issue. I have great respect for Balasaheb Thackeray right from childhood. Balasaheb has done a lot for Hindus and no one can deny this,” he said.

NCP leader Jayant Patil said, “Where was Chandrakant Patil? Was he present there at that time? How can we trust him?” Reacting to this, Patil said, “Who is Jayant Patil? Which Jayant Patil are you talking about? Are you talking about Jayant Patil of PWP?” The journalists told him that they were talking about Jayant Patil of his neighbouring village.

“I don’t have to worry about what Jayant Patil is saying about Hindutva? I should worry about what Uddhav Thackeray is saying about this issue. Hence, I am going to speak to him immediately. I will ask him why he has misunderstanding about me. How can I speak about Balasaheb in a disrespectful manner? Why should I speak about Jayant Patil’s statement,” he added.
