Man held for accepting bets on IPL match, two accused absconding; One of them may be son of leading politician of Pimpri Chinchwad
PIMPRI: Policenama online – Pune Pimpri Chinchwad Crime | IPL matches are being held at present and the police are cracking down on those accepting bets on these matches. On Wednesday, a match was played between Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings. The Pimpri police have arrested a person for accepting bets on this match. Two other accused are absconding and the police are searching for them. There is speculation that one of the absconding youths is the son of a senior politician of Pimpri Chinchwad. The arrested accused has been identified as Roshan Jitendra Mayaramani (27), a resident of Sai Chowk, Pimpri. Sunny Sukheja (35), a resident of Pimpri and Ashu Aswani (35), a resident of Pimpri are absconding. An FIR has been registered against the accused under Maharashtra Prevention of Gambling Act and Indian Telegraph Act. Police constable Vikas Janardan Reddy has lodged a complaint.
Policeman Reddy got the information that bets were being accepted on the match between Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings. Accordingly, when the police were searching for the accused, they located Roshan Mayaramani and arrested him. When he was questioned, he said that when the match was underway, he used to call up customers and tell them about the betting odds from the ‘Cricket Majha 11’ application.
After the customers placed bets, he informed his boss Sunny Sukheja and Ashu Aswani. Sukheja and Aswani were placing bets by using customers’ money, Mayaramani told the police. The accused are absconding and the police are trying to locate them. There is speculation that one of the accused is the son of a leading politician of Pimpri Chinchwad. PSI Anirush Savarde is carrying out further investigation.
The action was taken under the guidance of Vinay Kumar Choubey, Joint CP Manojkumar Lohia, Addl CP Sanjay Shinde, DCP Vivek Patil, ACP Prerna Katte, Sr PI Shankar Awatade, PI (crime) Bhojraj Misal by a team of officials including PSI Aniruddh Savarde, policemen Bhandvalkar, Barshinge, Hande, Karpe, Bagsiraj, Bharti, Mahadik, Shaikh, Janrao and Reddy.
