Pune – 5 years of imprisonment of two police instructors confirmed

Pune : policenama online – A sessions court has confirmed the conviction and five years imprisonment of two Pune police instructors for abetting suicide of a trainee police constable.

Additional Sessions Judge GP Agarwal confirmed the conviction of drill instructor Police Naik Nanasaheb Salunkhe (45) of Khadak police colony, and Police sub inspector Ramchandra Tatya Ghule (56) of Hadapsar.

The deceased constable Devidas Suryabhan Punjarwad (24) had sent SMS to his friends before committing suicide.

Devidas had joined the police department as constable. However, due to hard training he had fled. His father again brought him back to the police training ground. The instructor Salunkhe demanded Rs 5000 bribe and Ghule demanded Rs 10,000. As he failed to pay the bribe, the duo started harassing him physically and mentally. Fed up of the harassment, he hanged himself from a tree at the police headquarters in Shivajinagar around 4 am on 4th September 2012.

His brother constable Shivshankar Suryabhan Punjarwad had lodged an FIR with Shivajinagar police station against the two instructors.

The court of assistant sessions judge convicted the two instructors on December 19, 2014. Additional public prosecutor examined 18 witnesses to prove the guilt of the accused persons.
