Pune | Contractual doctor attempts suicide bid in front of PCMC building for not getting salary

(Pune) Pimpri : Policenama online  | A doctor working on contract of BVG India at the Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital (YCMH) tried to commit suicide by pouring kerosene on himself for non-payment of his salary for the past two months.

The incident happened at around 3 pm on Friday at the main gate of the PCMC building. The doctor has been identified as Mahendra Achyutrao Chate (31) of Moshi. Dr Chate is working as a contractual employee of BVG India at the vaccination centre of the YCMH.

He did not get his salary for the past two months. Moreover, his salary has also been cut. He is denied leave too. Dr Chate got hassled due to these factors. The depressed doctor on Friday arrived at the gate of main administrative building of the PCMC and started pouring kerosene over himself. The guards at the gate stopped him from doing this. They snatched a lighter from him and pacified him.

Security officer Gophane immediately reported the incident to the Pimpri police, who rushed to the spot and took custody of Dr Chate.

When contacted Senior PI Shankar Awatade said they would investigate the matter and would act against the people concerned.
