Pune | Cops fire in the air after a mob attacks Yerwada police team for arresting a goon

Pune : Policenama online  –  A police officer and a policeman were hurt in an attack launched by a mob on a police team which went to arrest a habitual criminal. The goon had beaten up a family by entering their house. The police had to fire in the air in self-defence.

 

The incident took place at 9.30 pm on Thursday at Pote Vasti in Yerwada. Two cops were hurt in the attack. Citizens welcomed the action launched by the police.

 

According to the police, a Mhada building is located in the Sarvdharma Sambhav housing society at Pote Vasti in Yerwada. Criminal Shaktisinh Surajsingh Bavri (22) and his accomplices used to trouble people living in this society. The goons used to steal petrol from people’s vehicles. They would break windows and doors of their houses. They would drink liquor on the terrace of their building without taking any permission and used to play cards.

 

Of the 200 flat owners, 179 left their flats and are staying elsewhere. Shaktisinh entered the house of a Christian family and beat up the family members on Wednesday night. The policemen on patrol duty learnt about this. They informed about the incident to Senior PI Yunus Shaikh and ACP Kishor Jadhav.

 

The police tried to dissuade Shaktisinh from troubling people. He got annoyed over this and provoked his community members. A large crowd gathered at the place. They manhandled PI Gade and other police personnel. Hence, the policemen had to fire in the air to disperse the mob. Later, additional police force was summoned and Shaktisinh was arrested.

 

Shaktisinh and his gang terrorised citizens in Sarvdharma Sambhav Society, Agrasen High School, Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar College, Indraprastha Udyan and Deccan College areas.

 

Citizens welcomed the police action and demanded that they would strictly deal with such elements in the future also.
