Pune Crime News | Two women arrested for gold chains & bangles thefts from PMPML buses in Swargate, jewellery worth Rs 6.60 lakhs seized

Pune: Pune Crime News | Due to 50 percent discount to women travelling in Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) buses the crowd has increased in the buses and there is also increase in the numbers of women gold chains and bangles thefts cases in Swargate area of Pune. The method used by the gang is also different. The two women gang used to steal the gold chains and bangles by cutting it with nail cutters. The police were also surprised to see such modus operandi used by the thieves.

Seeing the increase in the numbers of thefts in PMPML buses the Swargate police asked its women squad to keep vigil at ST bus stand and also at PMPML bus stand at Swargate in plain clothes to prevent the theft of women’s jewellery. While patrolling the police saw two women wearing a black scarf and a green sweater loitering near the PMPML bus stop at Swargate. The police on suspicion caught both the women and interrogated them, during the interrogation they confessed that they have done as many as 8 thefts from Swargate PMPML bus stop.

Sunil Zawre, senior police inspector, Swargate police station said, ” The two women who have been arrested has been identified as Karunanidhi Siddharaj Jinkeri (25) and Shweta alias Sarita Kashinath Patil (24) both a resident of Solapur at Tarfel in Gulbarga. We have found 9 tolas of jewellery worth Rs 6.60 lakhs from them and we have seized it. 8 cases of thefts have been solved after their arrest. Both of them had committed these thefts in the last 2 to 3 months. They used to come to Pune from Solapur.Earlier one man lodged a complaint with us about theft of his gold chain from a PMPML bus in a similar manner. Both of the accused confessed that they used to cut the gold chains and bangles within a second with the help of nail cutters. They admitted that they used to sell the stolen golds to a jeweller in Gulbarga. We are further investigating the case to find out how many more crimes they are involved in and also how many more members are in the gang.”

The action was initiated by the team of assistant police inspector Prashant Sande, sub-inspector Ashok Yewle, police personnel Siva Gaikwad, Feroze Sheikh, Sujay Pawar, Mukund Taru, Deepak Khendad under the guidance of deputy commissioner of police Smartana Patil and senior police inspector Sunil Zawre and Somnath Jadhav.

The Pune police has appealed to all the women as well as men travelling in the PMPML buses and ST buses to be careful about their belongings because the thieves are taking advantage of the crowded buses and are stealing the gold chains, bangles and other belongings.
