Pune: While hearing the application of Pune Police to grant a 90-day extension to the police in filing the chargesheet regarding the notorious gangster Sharad Mohol Murder case, the special court granted the 30-day deadline for the completion of the process and filing the chargesheet into the case. The special court gave the verdict on Saturday, March 30.

The special court was hearing the case on the application filed by Pune Police to demand a 90-day extension in filing the chargesheet against 15 accused held in the Sharad Mohol Murder case. Pune Police have so far made 16 arrests, including the prime mastermind behind it, Ganesh Marne. In the subsequent action against them, Pune police initiated action against all the accused under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime (MCOCA) Act. Currently, all the accused are facing judicial custody in the Yerawada Jail.

The 16 accused held by Pune police in the murder case so far have been identified as Ganesh Marne, Vitthal Shelar, Sahil alias Munna Santosh Polekar, Namdev Mahipati Kangude, Amit alias Amar Maruti Kangude, Chandrakant Shahu Shelke, Vinayak Santosh Gavankar, Vitthal Kisan Gandle, Adv. Ravindra Pawar, Adv. Adv Sanjay Rambhau Udhan, Ramdas Alias Waghya Marne, Dhananjay Maruti Vatkar, Satish Sanjay Shedge, Nitin Anantha Khaire, Aditya Vijay Gole, and Santosh Damodar Kurpe.

While speaking on the court’s recent order, the Assistant Commissioner of Crime Branch Police, Sunil Tambe, informed that police will apply to the special MCOCA court for an extension of the remaining 60 days in this case. Tambe is currently leading the investigation into the case.

Rejecting the police demand for an extension, the defence lawyer, Adv. Ketan Kadam, said that by asking for repeated extensions, the police are unnecessarily delaying the case. He said, “The investigation into the Sharad Mohol murder case has been completed. If the police file the charge sheet in time, the bail application will be submitted on behalf of the accused in the murder case.”

Meanwhile, the police have applied for an extension, citing a technical investigation.
