Pune crime | Sudhir Alhat sent to police custody till Sunday in Rs 50-lakh extortion case
Pune : Policenama online – Pune crime | The Crime Branch of Pune Police has arrested RTI Activist Sudhir Ramchandra Alhat for demanding a ransom of Rs 50 lakh from a woman complainant for withdrawing a complaint filed on his letterhead against the then police sub-inspector attached to the Deccan police station.
He was produced before the court, which remanded him in police custody till December 26. An extortion case has been filed at the Shivajinagar police station against Sudhir Alhat (51), a resident of Shivajinagar, Subhash alias Anna Jeur, Nilesh Jagtap, and Vivik Konde. The 48-year-old woman lodged a complaint in this regard.
The woman had filed the complaint on Alhat’s letterhead. He had promised the woman to take her case to senior police officials. The PSI had filed cases against her husband, which she alleged was implicated by the police.
Demanding their four-day custody, the police told the court that they need to get cellphones, addresses and whereabouts of absconding accused from the arrested. They also need to be interrogated as they are not cooperating in the investigation. Alhat is a habitual criminal and criminal cases have been filed against him at other police stations, which need to be investigated.
The court sent them to police custody till Sunday.
