Pune: Mula-Mutha river will be pollution-free: Murlidhar Mohol

Pune: Maha Yuti-BJP Lok Sabha candidate Murlidhar Mohol has assured the Puneites that the River Rejuvenation Project and Riverfront Development Project have been planned considering the needs of the next 25 years. Under the projects, 100 pc sewage water will be treated. These plans will definitely be completed.

A poll campaign rally was held for Mohol in the More Vidyalaya area. BJP State Women’s Wing President Chitra Wagh, NCP (AP) City Unit President Deepak Mankar, former Corporators Manjushree Khardekar, Deepak Pote, Jayant Bhave, Adv Varsha Dahale, Punit Joshi, Dr Sandeep Butala, Anuradha Yedke, Aparna Lonare, Kuldip Savalekar, Mitali Savalekar, Shantanu Khilare Patil, Vitthal Barate, Harshvardhan Mankar, Deepak Pawar, Sachin Thorat, Ajay Marne, Abhijit Raut, Sandeep More, and Ashutosh Vaishampayan participated in the rally.

Mohol said, “As many as 11 new STPs will be built; 55-km long new drainage pipelines will be laid and the daily sewage treatment capacity will increase by 396 MLD under the Mula-Mutha Rejuvenation Project. It has been planned to cater to a population of 99 lakh till 2046. Moreover, the 10 old STPs will be modernized by spending Rs 500 crore. Of the new 11 STPs, work on 10 plants has almost been completed. The imported machinery for the project has reached the city. The STPs are likely to start in mid-2025.”

He said, “The bhoomi-pujan ceremony of the Riverfront Development Project was performed by PM Narendra Modi two years ago. A pilot project of 350-m length has been completed at Dr Cheema Garden in the first stage. The second stage work is also underway.

“The river will be cleaned and its current capacity will be increased; the entire riverbank will be thrown open to the public. Historical buildings, centres of entertainment, religion and culture will be connected to the project. There will be 44-km long jogging and bicycle tracks. As many as 217 entry points will be made available to access the riverbank. Some parks will be developed along the banks and boating facility will be available at 16 spots. There will be around 50 old and new ‘Ghats’ along the riverbanks. The two projects will make the rivers beautiful and free of pollution. I will take follow-ups of the plans.”
